Don’t Get Lost

Posted on 26th May 2010

The season finale of the hit ABC television series, “LOST”, has come and gone. There are a lot of people who “get” LOST, the show that is. And, similarly, there are some people who “get lost” when trying to find one of our two “Open Kitchen” locations here in Albuquerque, and understandably so.

Fact is there are more than two locations of Taco Cabana in Albuquerque, NM. It’s also a fact, however, that there are only two locations that have the true “Open Kitchen” experience.  What is that makes those two locations so different? Well, for one, you can see your food being prepared while you wait. So you know it’s fresh, and where it comes from — unlike some places (and islands) we have no secrets.

So whether you “get” LOST or not, we hope you won’t “get lost” when you’re ready for authentic, fresh, mexican food.

Remember, we’re at the corner of Wyoming and Montgomery, and on San Mateo just North of Academy.

Join the Food Revolution!

Many of you knew Jamie Oliver as “the Naked Chef” — which he warns against ever actually cooking in the nude — and some of you have seen his recent show on ABC “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution“, and more of you yet may have never heard of him until now.

Jamie is a chef from the United Kingdom who has made it his mission in life to use his celebrity for good. He started in England, revamping the school lunch program there to rid it of processed, frozen foods and replace them with freshly prepared menus full of healthy, real ingredients. You may not realize the enormity of this goal, but he accomplished it throughout a great area in the U.K. and then he came here, to the U.S. to do the same thing.

His success in starting a “food revolution” in the states has been dynamic and wonderful. His goals are simple; get rid of processed, frozen foods which have ingredients lists that read like a medical journal, and replace them with healthy, real, fresh ingredients and meals made from such. That’s the revolution. That’s what he’s trying to get all of America to do. Schools, families, communities, he wants us to be a healthier nation who cooks again.

The statistics he talks about on the show were pretty scary. The fact that this generation of school age children actually have a shorter life expectancy than their parents — something never before true in recorded history. The fact that America is getting more and more unhealthy as we get fatter and fatter is not good. But the good news is we can change it! YOU can change it! You can be PART OF this “food revolution!”

So how can you be a part of the “food revolution?”

First, visit this website and sign the petition to save America’s cooking skills and improve school food.

Second, visit one of Taco Cabana’s two “Open Kitchen” locations in Albuquerque, NM and watch us prepare your food fresh, right in front of you!

You see, just like Jamie’s Kitchen, our “Open Kitchenlocations make everything fresh. We don’t use processed, frozen foods. In fact, if you want to know how many calories are in one of our items, just look it up on the web. If it has eggs, look up eggs… if it has beans, look up beans… chicken, chicken… and so on and so on. You won’t have to guess what else we add or how we prepare it because we don’t add anything that’s not natural and we prepare it right in front of you!

In a way the Taco Cabana open kitchens have been a part of the food revolution for over a decade now. And we’re not ashamed to say we’re glad everyone else is finally catching onto what makes good food good!

Spring has Sprung

Posted on 24th March 2010

Even though we’re in Albuquerque and still getting snow at least once a week — high desert you know — it is March. And as March offers up the occasional 70º day, it’s obvious that spring is finally here!  So it’s a great time to remind you that there’s nothing quite as nice as sitting outside on a warm spring afternoon enjoying an ice cold, freshly made, horchata. And one of our two Taco Cabana Open-Kitchen Locations is the perfect place to do just that.

You may or may not know that we have outdoor seating on our spacious patios. Well, it just so happens we also have horchata.  And it’s not from a mix!  Don’t know what horchata is?  It’s a Mexican drink that was originally brought over by the Spaniards. A milky looking beverage made with rice and flavored with cinnamon. If you’ve never had it, you do not know what you’re missing! So stop in… grab a glass, and sit outside for a relaxing, delicious, mid-afternoon treat.

Kitchen ‘Dream’

Chef Gordon Ramsay’s popular show, “Kitchen Nightmares” is fun to watch because we can’t help but stare at a train wreck. He goes into these restaurants and guts them from the basement up. Usually finding things far too disgusting to mention on a website about food. But, when he’s done the restaurants are serving delicious, fresh, authentic food that people can’t get enough of.

Believe us when we say Chef Ramsay has no need to visit the “Open Kitchen” locations of Taco Cabana. In fact, he would be proud at how clean our kitchens are, how fresh our food is, and how authentically we prepare it. But you don’t have to take our word for it. Our “Open Kitchens” are open for a reason; you can SEE your food being prepared right in front of your eyes!

So come on in, and find out what a “Good Kitchen Dream” is really like!

The Open Kitchen Difference

Posted on 3rd March 2010

Our two open kitchen locations here in Albuquerque are more than just a novelty, they represent a real difference that you can taste as well as see.

All Taco Cabana’s started with “open kitchens” but, over the years, many had to be remodled for various reasons and the kitchens got closed off. Our two “Open Kitchen” locations, however, made a deicsion to do all we had to do to keep our kitchens open.

What’s this mean to you? Well, for one you can see your food being prepared. Order it, then watch. You’ll see your pancakes being poured on the griddle… your chicken roasting in the fire. You’ll be able to see that nothing is coming from a heat lamp to your table. And then, when you’re at your table, you’ll taste the difference in every scrumptious bite!
